Ship Adrift

We've spotted a ship drifting not too far from a regular shipping route. We can take the Caisson to go investigate.

The choice

What the operation puts to you, what each answer pays, and how it turned out. An option with two outcomes is one that can go wrong. This contract is authored several times over and the strategy layer rolls one of them, so the options you get depend on the version you draw: read the briefing and match it to the one below.

Version 1

Our team boards the ship to find that what looked like an abandoned bulk freighter is actually an underground fighting ring! Spectators stamp and cheer as their champions pound the kriff out of each other. There's an unusual three-way fight about to start. Shall we make a bet?

AImmuren Bag Bet on the Klatooinian. 1:5 Odds

Outcome 148.39%

Immuren Bag opportunistically waited for Cha'hul to take down Feigheff, then struck while the triumphant Kel Dor was basking in cheers from the crowd. The unsuspecting Cha'hul went down hard. Immuren Bag Victory!

Outcome 232.26%

When the bell went off, Feigheff winked all three eyes at Immuren Bag. The two quickly cornered and overwhelmed Cha'hul. After the Kel Dor champ went down, Feigheff turned on Immuren, making quick work of his temporary Klatooinian ally. Feigheff Victory!

Outcome 319.35%

Hoping to make a name for themselves, Immuren Bag charged foolishly at Cha'hul. Two quick strikes and the Klatooinian hit the cold floor. Feigheff engaged but was no match for the champ. Cha'hul Mechiiw Victory!

Version 2

The old freighter shows no signs of battle, but there is a crudely painted animal skull with large tusks visible on the hull. Shall we investigate further?

Which option to pick

Every answer pays the same. They differ in which zone the influence lands in.

AAssign an Operator. Send someone to explore the ship.

Requires 1 operator assigned.

InfluenceSmall influence+3
Outcome 150%

The assigned operator carefully worked their way into the freighter's hull. Inside, they discovered a series of booby traps left by the freighter's former Mandalorian occupants. At least the team found some supplies we can salvage for credits.

RISK:HIGH
Outcome 250%

The assigned operator immediately identified the freighter as an abandoned Mandalorian vessel: "Good thing you sent me." She easily disarmed some obvious booby traps and found some equipment tucked away, ripe for salvage.

BLeave. Let's not tempt fate.

The team returned safely. This one wasn't worth the risk.

Version 3

Our team sees fresh carbon scoring across the vessel's hull. This ship was recently attacked. What should we do?

AAssign 2 operators. Send a team to explore.

Requires 2 operators assigned.

Outcome 166.67%

Our operators boarded the ship to find it in ruins. It looks like pirates attacked the crew and stripped it nearly clean. There were no survivors, but our team found some credits in storage.

Outcome 233.33%

Our operators boarded the ship to find it in ruins. It looks like pirates attacked the crew and stripped it nearly clean. There were no survivors, but our team found some credits and an item in storage.

BBlow it up. It's not worth the risk.

Our team set some charges on the ship and detonated them from a safe distance. Any traps or treasures the ship might have held are space dust now.

Version 4

Our team boards the ship to find that it isn't abandoned after all. A two-headed Troig named Monri and Lantow greet our operators warmly. Monri assures them: "We're not adrift, we're just sailing the solar waves." Lantow chimes in: "Care to join us? We've got some Moogan Tea brewing and could use some company."

ATry the Moogan Tea. Ah, what the hell.

The Moogan Tea was delightful. Lantow and Monri pondered the meaning of the galaxy and delighted in our operators' company. We should unwind and bond like this more!

Requires 3 operators assigned.

InfluenceSmall influence+3

BLeave. These two don't seem trustworthy. And who has time for tea?

Unsure of Monri and Lantow's true intentions, the team departed. Monri seemed sad; Lantow even more so. But who knows what a Troig really feels?

Version 5

It's Monri and Lantow again! They are happy to see our operators, but when our team warns the Troig that they're drifting in a dangerous area, they seem blissfully unaware of the current political situation. They offer our team some more Moogan Tea.

Which option to pick

Take "Indulge in Troig teatime". The game marks it the best outcome there is.

AIndulge in Troig teatime. It'd be rude to refuse, really.

Despite our concerns, Monri and Lantow's ship proved to be a peaceful oasis in a chaotic galaxy. As our operators left, the Troig gave them a piece of equipment as a token of our friendship.

BWarn them There's no time for tea. This Troig needs to find safe harbor.

Monri and Lantow brushed off our team's concerns: "What's the point of fussing? We're just going to let the current take us where it wants us to go." Hard to argue with that. Our team left them to drift.

Version 6

It's a pirate trap! As our team approaches the drifting freighter, two ships nose up to the Caisson. Over comms, they demand we pay them a toll or they'll blow us to bits.

ARun for it. Punch it, Meevo!

The pirates' ships were no match for the Caisson. By the time they got their targeting sensors online, the Caisson was far away.

BPay the toll. We don't know what these pirates are packing. Best to pay up.

Runa wasn't happy about it, but our team coughed up some credits for the pirates. At least everyone got home safe.

Version 7

The ship is a sleek interstellar racer, its magnificent engines now hanging uselessly in space. Its pilot, Qolruk Nal, tells us over comms that he hit a debris patch and spun out. Can we help him out?

Which option to pick

Take "Steal his capacitor". It is the only one that hands over Capacitors.

ARepair his ship. We can send an operator over to help him out.

Our team used our own parts to help Qolruk repair his ship. It's hardly in racing shape, but it'll fly. The grateful Qolruk paid us for our trouble.

BGive him a tow. We can use the Caisson to tow him to the nearest spaceport.

Our team towed Qolruk's ship to the nearest spaceport, where they have the specialized parts he needs to repair his ship. The grateful Qolruk paid us for our trouble.

CSteal his capacitor. That's quite an engine he has there.

Our team sent an operator over to Qolruk's ship to "help" him repair his engines. When he wasn't looking, they swiped his capacitor, acted puzzled when the ship still refused to start, and made a hasty exit, wishing him the best. By the time Qolruk realized what our team had done, our operator was far away. It's a tough galaxy out there.

Capacitors
Version 8

The ship is a familiar looking interstellar racer. As we approach, a Sarisa-class Pyke gunship blips out of hyperspace, its lasers trained on the Caisson. Our old friend, the racer Qolruk Nal, calls our team over comms, gloating that we've fallen right into his trap. Zero Company screwed him over by stealing his capacitor, and now our operators must pay up or die.

Which option to pick

Take "Fight them off". Every other answer here is a dead end.

APay Up. He has us cornered.

Our team transferred over the credits. Qolruk got us, fair and square.

Roster XP+100

BFight them off. We're not going down without a fight.

Our team fought off the Pykes, but it wasn't easy. Maybe that's what we deserved.

Version 9

A small, damaged cargo freighter drifts through space. Our team boards and finds it unmanned, carrying only construction supplies and a flight log listing its destination: a nearby Duros colony. What should we do?

Which option to pick

Take "Tow it to the colony". It is the only one that pays, at 500 credits.

AKeep the supplies. Finders keepers.

Our team quickly loaded the supplies into the Caisson and left with our new bounty.

Roster XP+100

BTow it to the colony. It's not that far out of our way.

Our team towed the damaged freighter to the Duros colony. At first suspicious, the colonists were ultimately delighted to receive their missing supplies. Unfortunately, they had little to offer in return but their gratitude.

Version 10

A small, damaged cargo freighter drifts through space. Our team boards it to find a group of Duros colonists working to repair their engines. They recognize our operators immediately as part of the crew who stripped their last cargo freighter of all its contents, and demand an explanation.

A / BOffer compensation. We don't want a confrontation if we can avoid it.

The Duros accepted our team's offer of compensation for their pilfered supplies.

CFight them. Might makes right.

The Duros put up a good fight, but ultimately were no match for our team. It doesn't pay to cross Zero Company.

Requires 3 operators assigned.
